Lower Right Side Back Pain

The most common causes of back pain on the lower right side include kidney problems, appendix problems, poor posture, or pulled muscles. Kidney problems can sometimes be treated with antibiotics if the problem is a simple infection. Because the kidneys are crucial to health, it is important not to wait if you suspect there is something wrong. Ditto with the appendix. Pain from an inflamed appendix often manifests in the lower back area on the right side. Waiting to obtain medical attention could prove harmful or even fatal because if the organ is not promptly removed it could burst. Two of the less serious potential causes of lower back pain on either side include poor posture and/or pulled muscles. Posture is more important than many people realize. The way you sit, stand, walk and even sleep can make a huge difference in your comfort level. Many people experience posture problems when they work at a computer all day sitting in a position that is not ergonomically correct. These days they make ergonomic chairs, desks, keyboards and even mouse pads. There is no excuse for poor posture, not with all the resources available to correct it. More than a matter of etiquette and self-carriage, proper posture can prevent the occurrence of back pain.
Pulled or strained muscles can also cause lower right side back pain. This could occur because of heavy lifting, athletics, slips and falls, or even improper sleeping posture. When you pull or strain a back muscle the first thing you should do is rest and apply cold to the affected area for a few days. Then you can use heat for pain relief and start light activity like walking and gentle stretching. You may also want to try an over-the-counter pain reliever like Tylenol or Advil to help you alleviate the pain while the strained area heals.
